What are the different classes of Digital Signature Certificates?
There are 3 different classes of Digital Signature Certificate:
1. Class 1 Certificate: Issued to individuals/private subscribers. Used for validation of user's name and E-mail address form an unambiguous subject within the Certifying Authorities.
2. Class 2 Certificate: Issued for both Business personnel and Private individuals use. Used for ITR/GST/ROC filing, Company/LLP Registration etc.
3. Class 3 Certificate: Issued to individuals as well as organisations. Primarily intended for e-commerce applications, used for E-Tendering, E-Auctions etc.

Digital Signature are used to authenticate the contents of electronic documents just like physical signature are used to verify or authnticate physical Documents. A digital certificate can be presented electronically to prove one’s identity, to access information or services on the Internet or to sign certain documents digitally.
In India Digital Signature can be used for:
1. Filing of Income Tax Returns
2. Filing Forms With ROC for Company and LLP.
3. For applying GST registration etc
4. For applying Trademark

What type of Digital Signature Certificate is required for Income Tax filing, ROC and MCA filing?
Class 2 Digital Signature Certificate is required for Income Tax filing, ROC and MCA filing. Class 2 Digital Signature Certificate can be issued for 1 year or 2 years. After the valid period , user need to renew class 2 digital signature certificates. Class 2 Digital Signature certificate can be issued to individual / organisation.
What type of Digital Signature Certificate is required for e-Tendering, e-Procurement, Trademark / Patent filing?
Class 3 Company / Organization User certificate is required for e-Tendering, e-Procurement , Trademark / Patent filing. Class 3 is the highest type of Digital Signature Certificate. it can be issued for 1 years or 2 years. After the valid period , user need to renew class 3 digital signature certificates.
Can two or more people have the same digital signature?
No, a digital signature is unique and thus two or more individuals/entities cannot have the same digital signature.
